The application of liquid nitrogen to the skin is a common skin procedure. The liquid nitrogen is very cold, causing skin cells to freeze. The liquid nitrogen can be applied using a spray or dipstick applicator. This procedure is an effective treatment for warts. The risks of this procedure include temporary blisters, infection. Long term risks include changes in sensation, changes in skin color or pigment levels (hypopigmentation and hyperpigmentation) and permanent scarring.
