
Biography:
Arthur F. Smith, M.D. was born and raised in the Chicago area. He attended high school at Aurora West Senior High School and graduated in June of 1969. He went to undergraduate school at the University Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and graduated from that school with high honors and with distinction in June of 1973.
He attended medical school at the University of Illinois at Chicago. While in medical school, Dr. Smith did an externship at the University of Michigan, six months doing basic science research with a renowned rheumatologist investigating the relationship between platelets and rheumatoid arthritis. He did his internship in Internal medicine at the University of Illinois from July 1977 – 1978.
He spent a year working for the Chicago Board of Health before obtaining a position at Cook County Hospital in the Department of dermatology. He trained in Dermatology at Cook County Hospital and was the Chief Resident from July 1981 to June 1982.
Dr. Smith moved to Florida in 1982 and opened his practice in West Lake Worth in 1983. He is married with 3 children. He is a member of several medical societies and organizations. He also is former president of the Palm Beach County Dermatology Society.
His areas of expertise include dermatologic surgery with particular emphasis on skin cancer, including basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and malignant melanoma. Dr. Smith also practices medical dermatology, which includes the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the skin, hair, and nails. He also performs some cosmetic procedures including, removal of unwanted benign skin growth, collagen implantation, spider veins and various acid peels.
Dr. Smith has a well-trained staff, and they often are able to assist in answering many of the established patients’ questions about common dermatoses, such as acne, seborrheic dermatitis, tinea versicolor, rosacea, psoriasis, and contact dermatitis.
Dr. Smith welcomes new patients and is proud of the fact that he is able to see most dermatologic emergency situations within 24 hours. He enjoys the benefits patients receive from getting quick relief from acute dermatologic problems, as well as diagnosing and treating significant skin malignancies.
